A desperate mum is “worried sick” after her teenage daughter and friend went missing over the weekend, leading to a major police search.
Caroline Rafferty said there have been “no sightings on CCTV” of Eireann Ruddy, aged 13, or 11-year-old Paul Price after they disappeared in North Belfast on Sunday.
She said the two children have “basically vanished”, adding her daughter had packed a bag so her disappearance seems at least partly planned, reports Belfast Live.
Ms Rafferty said hundreds of people have been involved in the search, with police confirming the pair were last seen in Crumlin Road, close to Twadell Avenue, around the Ardoyne area, at 10.15am.
The teen is understood to have left her home in Carlisle Circus around 8am yesterday and her mum said she got more concerned as it got dark.
“They were last seen around 8:50am on the Crumlin Road end of Annesley street and basically you can only turn right or left up the Crumlin Road or left down Clifton Street and there are no sightings on CCTV,” she continued.
“They have basically vanished.”
A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokesperson has urged anyone who knows any information about the whereabouts of Eireann and Paul, to call 101 and quote reference 785 of October 11.
Members of the Community Rescue Service (CRS) are involved in the missing person operation.
“She has never done anything like this before,” Mrs Rafferty added.
“She packed a bag and was getting ready to leave. It had to be planned. I don’t know why she would do this, it is so unlike her.
“She is not street wise and is not sensible in that way and I am getting really concerned.
“I think people are assuming that she will come home eventually, but I fear that it won’t work out that way.
“I think she is going to be panicking about being in trouble for doing this, but I think she needs to know that it’s not just her family and friends that are looking for her but CRS, police and the wider community are now invloved.
“There are hundreds of people that know about this now and they are looking for her and trying to be observant as they possibly can.”
“If she knows that I don’t know if that will scare her into hiding more or convince her to come home, but I am getting worried sick now because it’s starting to get dark and I have not heard from her all day,” Eireann’s mum added.
“If anyone knows where they both are please get in contact with the police or someone close to them.”
Eireann is described as 4 feet 10 inches tall, with a slim build and dirty fair hair.
The teenager is wearing a blue hooded top with bold white writing on the front and white drawstrings.
Meanwhile, Paul is 4 feet 6 inches tall and has a slight build with short brown hair.
He is believed to be wearing a black North Face coat, black tracksuit bottoms and black trainers. He is carrying a Hugo Boss backpack.
